PETRAŠIŪNAI POWER PLANT
By recognizing Petrašiūnai power plant, the historical center of Petrašiūnai district, and also - the lack of creative public areas in the district, our group proposed to convert primary industrial area into urban park - educational area with modules of multipurpose use.
The goal of this conversion is to provide accessible green spaces where residents can gather, exercise, and enjoy nature. The design will integrate the site’s industrial history with contemporary park features, such as walking paths, playgrounds, event spaces, and gardens. By incorporating elements like reserved buildings and repurposed infrastructure, the park will preserve the historical character of the area while fostering a modern, sustainable environment.
Beyond just a recreational area, the park is expected to become a hub for cultural events, art installations, and local initiatives, enhancing the sense of community.
The project will improve the quality of life for Petrašiūnai residents by addressing the need for more public spaces. The transformation of this industrial site into a green urban park exemplifies how urban regeneration can create both cultural and environmental value.
The idea of this experimental project is derived from plants pushing through cracks in concrete, symbolizing life finding a way even in the harshest, most sterile environments. The project emphasizes integrating nature into a non-green and heavily urbanized site by allowing “green growth” to break through the rigid framework of architecture.
